CrayfordLodgeProgramme1977-78

Good evening Brn All,

Some have seen the attached, but certainly not all. This was the typical
way we were informed of the work to be done by the L in those days. It's
not quite as neat and tidy as now, but very effective - a carbon copy of a
hand written page from a note book! Note the two ceremonies at each
meeting.

On the programme you will see some very well known names, so pin-pointing
the moment of their joining us. Even in those days W.Bro Ken Cole was a
force to be reckoned with when it came to delivery. He had just the right
way of putting it over! W.Bro Ben was equally formidable in the Chair, as
no doubt you might imagine from recent years during which he has been
delighting us all with the 2nd deg WTs! W.Bro Emrys Howells was Welsh and
would charm the Brn with his wonderful lyrical accent; again a superb
ritualist. Yes; he sang too! Regretfully, I cannot recall the manner of
working of WM of the day.

Where did it come from? - my piano stool, underneath piles of old music! I
don't recall when I first played for Crayford(taking over from W.Bro John
Woodhouse, who took over from W.Bro Dennis Lever - a fine jazz pianist!);
before 1977, I think, and could easily have put the paper into the stool
with music after a meeting - some 34yrs ago!

The WM for '77-'78 was W Bro Dick Abrey (thanks to W.Bro John B, as I'd
completely forgotten!) and the Secretary, who presumably would have written
out this sheet, was W.Bro Gus Glover(thanks again to John) who reigned in
that Office for many a year!. BTW, it was W.Bro John who followed W.Bro
Abrey into the Chair.

I thought this to be a nice piece of L nostalgia, and so to be shared.

S&f,

Peter.
